Westphalia residents looking for a place to exercise, play basketball or find a weekend activity for a teenager have an option at 8900 Westphalia Road. The Westphalia Community Center combines fitness equipment, courts, a game room and outdoor recreation areas, with designated Teen Nights on Friday and Saturday evenings.

The facility is part of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s Department of Parks and Recreation. Its listed amenities include tennis and pickleball courts, playground equipment, picnic tables and access to a hard-surface trail, alongside indoor spaces for exercise and recreation.

Using the center involves more than checking when the doors open. Basic membership, fitness-room access and registration for individual classes are different things—and the costs depend on age, residency and the activity.

A weekend option for teens

Westphalia’s published Teen Night schedule is 7 to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, year-round. The department’s event calendar identifies the program as free and lists Westphalia among its participating locations.

Across the county, Teen Night activities can include basketball, trivia, games and dancing. Those are examples of the broader program, not a guarantee that every activity will be offered at Westphalia on a particular evening. Families should contact the center for its upcoming activities and participation requirements.

The department distinguishes between teen and preteen offerings at different sites; its location schedule lists Westphalia’s program for teens. Parents of younger children should confirm age eligibility rather than assume every county youth event serves the same age group.

What membership costs

For Prince George’s and Montgomery county residents, a one-year basic community center membership is free for ages 6 through 17 and adults 60 and older. Adults ages 18 through 59 pay $45 annually.

Fitness-room access has a separate membership option. The published one-year community center membership with a fitness pass costs $125 for resident adults ages 18 through 59. Eligible resident teens and seniors receive that access free. Teens ages 13 through 15 must be supervised in fitness rooms by an adult who holds a valid fitness pass.

A free Youth ID provides access to designated drop-in activities and amenities, but does not include classes. Families can obtain the ID at a department community center. Seniors seeking a free Senior ID should bring proof of age and residency.

Finding classes—and help with fees

The department has published its Fall 2026 recreation guide, which brings together classes, programs and events throughout Prince George’s County. Residents can browse the guide and follow its registration links, while printed copies are available through local community centers and libraries. Check each listing’s location carefully: the countywide guide includes many facilities besides Westphalia.

Residents facing financial hardship may qualify for the department’s fee-assistance program. Published discounts range from 20 percent to 90 percent, depending on financial eligibility. Assistance is available to Prince George’s County residents for eligible programs and memberships, with restrictions.

Most eligible programs must cost more than $35. Exclusions include trips, facility rentals, certain admissions and materials fees. Residents can review the department’s eligibility information and submit an application through a local community center; assistance is not automatic.

Before heading over

The center’s regular published hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Teen Nights run separately on Friday and Saturday evenings. The regular schedule lists Sunday as closed.

Before making a first visit, ask about the specific activity, any registration or membership requirement, and when the relevant court or room is available. Residents can reach Westphalia Community Center at 301-516-5300 or westphaliacc@pgparks.com.
